If you've worked in B2B in Singapore for any length of time, you know this market moves quickly.
Businesses move quickly. Expectations move quickly. Careers move quickly. But relationships? Those tend to move at the speed of trust. And in my experience, that's what matters most.
Singapore is often described as a hub — and it is. Sophisticated, globally connected, intensely competitive. But it's also a remarkably connected business community. People know each other. Reputations travel. Relationships carry. That has shaped how I've approached my career.
Earning trust, keeping promises, helping customers
For me, sales has never really been about what you sell. It has been about who you serve.
Yes, over the years I've sold different solutions — integrated campaigns, research-led programs, events, and now technology-led demand generation that incorporates all the above. The products have evolved. The market has evolved. But something hasn't changed. The customers.
Many of the people I work with today — at organisations like IBM, Red Hat, Pure Storage (now Ever Pure), Google, AMD, and StarHub — are relationships I've built over years, in some cases over multiple chapters of my career. Indeed, the first five deals I made after moving to Demand AI came from these accounts, based on existing relationships and built-up trust.
And that means something to me. Because it tells me people aren't staying because of a product catalogue. They stay because of trust. Because over time they know I care about their outcomes. They know I will be honest when something isn't right. They know I'll challenge them when needed, support them when needed, and stay invested after the contract is signed.
Partnerships that matter
That, to me, is partnership. And it matters enormously in Singapore.
There is a professionalism in this market that I deeply respect. People value expertise, but they also want consistency. They appreciate ambition, but they look for substance behind it. And they remember whether you showed up when it counted.
I've learned some of the strongest client relationships are not built through perfect programs or easy wins. They're built in the difficult moments. Working through change. Solving problems together. Adjusting strategy when the market shifts. Having candid conversations when pressure is high. That's where trust gets built. And that's often where long-term partnerships begin.
Of course, our industry is changing fast. AI, data, new ways of engaging buyers — all of that is reshaping the landscape. And yes, the solutions I bring to clients today are very different to those I was bringing five years ago. But my philosophy hasn't changed.
Delivering results for customers
My job is not to push the newest thing. It is to help customers make good decisions that deliver results. That's a very different mindset. I think B2B buyers in Singapore should expect that from the partners they work with.
Not just innovation. Not just performance. But sincerity, transparency, and consistency. A partner whose concern for your success is real. Because in a high-velocity market, trust isn't separate from performance. It enables performance. It allows businesses to move faster, because confidence is already there.
And perhaps most importantly, it turns commercial relationships into something much more durable. Into partnerships. I've been fortunate to take many customers on a journey with me across different stages of my career. That's something I never take for granted. And it's reinforced a belief I hold strongly: markets move fast here, but trust compounds slowly. And that is what lasts.
