Great Products Are Built on Great Foundations

Great Products Are Built on Great Foundations

Carmelo Macasaddu, Senior Vice President, Global Programs, Demand AI

Over the course of my career, I've worked with organizations of every size — from ambitious startups to some of the world's largest technology businesses.

One thing has become abundantly clear to me: the companies that endure aren't necessarily the ones with the loudest marketing or even the most exciting products. They're the ones willing to invest in the things most people never see.

Infrastructure. Operations. Governance. Customer success. Doing the hard work properly.

When people ask why I joined Demand AI, that's my answer.

Why I joined Demand AI

Yes, the technology impressed me. I was super impressed by the leadership of our co-founders Michael and Charlie Whife. Demand AI has built genuinely AI-native platforms that are changing how B2B marketers identify, engage, and understand buyers. That innovation is real.

But what convinced me to come aboard was everything sitting behind the technology.

Many businesses outsource critical capabilities because it's quicker, cheaper and easier. There is nothing inherently wrong with outsourcing, provided it doesn't compromise quality or control. But if your ambition is to become a truly global technology company, there are some capabilities you simply must own.

Demand AI has made that decision repeatedly.

We've invested in our own global data centre infrastructure rather than relying entirely on third parties. We've built and maintain our own compliant first-party database containing more than 170 million business contacts.

We've developed our own proprietary email delivery infrastructure, with domains and local capability in every market we serve.

We've established our own AI innovation campus in Noida, bringing together engineers, developers and domain experts to build products for the future rather than simply adapting the past.

Confidence is no trick

These aren't glamorous investments. They're expensive and time-consuming. But they create something incredibly valuable: confidence.

Confidence for our customers that their campaigns are running on secure, compliant infrastructure. Confidence that their data is managed responsibly. Confidence that the technology they're buying is genuinely proprietary — not simply assembled from third-party components.

One of the initiatives I'm particularly excited to be leading is the potential development of a dedicated Product Support capability in Manila. To some people, that's simply an operational decision. I see it differently.

It's another example of our commitment to investing where it matters most: supporting customers exceptionally well after they've chosen to work with us.

The Philippines has built a global reputation for customer service excellence, combining outstanding communication skills with a deeply customer-centric culture. Building our own specialist support capability there isn't the quickest route. It is, however, the right one.

And that philosophy runs throughout Demand AI.

Capabilities over convenience

Whether it's compliance, infrastructure, customer support or product development, we consistently choose long-term capability over short-term convenience.

As someone responsible for global programs, I find that refreshing. Because ultimately, customers don't invest in technology — they invest in outcomes.

Those outcomes depend on much more than software. They depend on the quality of the systems behind it, the people supporting it, the infrastructure enabling it and the processes governing it.

And the culture that insists on doing things properly, even when customers never see the work involved. That's what attracted me to Demand AI.

It's also why I believe we're building something much bigger than another marketing technology company. We're building an organisation that owns its capabilities, invests in its foundations, and earns trust through execution.

In my experience, those are the companies that don't just grow quickly. They're the ones that are still leading the market decades later.
